I helped figure out the game's art style and found a way to make use of all of our team member's skills. We had both 2D and 3D artists for this game, and so we settled on making out game 2.5D. Our 3D artists happened to be prop artists, with our 2D artists being character artists, so it worked out perfectly.
To compliment the 2.5D style and to make it feel less jarring, we decided it would be best to go for a comic book art style. Utilizing heavy outlines, bright colors, snappier animations, and took inspiration from comics like Umbrella Academy, Hellboy, and Dick Tracy.
I worked on all of the character line art, in order to keep the style consistent. With other of our 2D artists being assigned to coloring, comics, UI, and icons. And before our VFX artists figured out a toon shader, I also worked with some of the 3D modelers to figure out how to create outlines in Substance Painter using generators to make their job easier. We went through halftones, sketchy cell shading, and just basic outlines.
For the final presentation of our games, ABAG won Best Visual Design.
